Cha Cha Chia for You (Chia Seed Giveaway)!

As you know, I love chia seeds! They are an amazing superfood that can make or break a bowl of overnight oats, oatmeal or pudding. Chia seeds are a wonderful whole foods supplement that boosts your fiber intake, adds essential Omega-3s to your diet and provides plant-based protein. Plus, they are just so much fun to eat! I usually purchase chia seeds in the bulk department of my natural foods store; however, have been looking for a less expensive... Read More

Morrocco Method

A few months ago, I was sent a sampler kit of  shampoos and conditioners from Morrocco Method. I was extremely excited to try Morrocco Method because I was in search of a new line of natural hair care products after years of using quasi-natural Aveda products.   All of Morrocco Method’s products are wild-crafted, raw, vegan and gluten-free. The following is a little more about Morrocco Method, taken from their website: Morrocco Method... Read More

Gardens of Eagan Open House

On Saturday afternoon we visited the Gardens of Eagan open house. Garden’s of Eagan is a 100 acre, urban-edge, organic vegetable farm that provides produce to several area co-ops and businesses. They also frequent a few farmer’s markets, including the Fulton Farmer’s Market.   We bought this bag for $10 & filled it with pick your own veggies (cukes, peppers, tomatoes, kale & basil) The bag started to get really... Read More

Eat Your Peas

If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you already know about my Mama Pea lady love. While I do not know her personally, her witty sense of humor and lovely stories about her daily adventures are heartwarming and inviting. In a way, her family reminds me of my own, minus the whole vegan part. I am from a family of two girls and a (female) cat, that happens to look a lot like Pea Kitty. So, a lot of Mama Pea’s stories of their... Read More

Kefir French Toast

According to our monthly meal plan for August, on Saturday morning we were supposed to have cinnamon rolls from Mama Pea’s new book. However, for the last week I had been craving french toast. So, our plans changed. Instead I thawed the last loaf of homemade cinnamon swirl bread overnight and we had french toast. Oh me. Oh my. Did we have french toast! Topped with mashed banana, raspberries and mango… and a side of failed frittata.... Read More

Making Our Way Home + Coffee Winners

We arrived home late last night, just in time for a big thunderstorm. Allan unloaded the car between downpours while I unpacked and put away the cooler with Matthew’s help. After several hours in the car, we stopped in the cute town of Menomonie, WI to pick up supper. After doing some research on my iPhone, we found that Menomonie is the only town between Minneapolis and Marinette that has a co-op. We decided that the Menomonie Market Food... Read More

A Day at the Lake

Late this morning, we spent a couple hours walking the Lake Michigan sandy beach outside of Menominee, MI. We had a beautiful time and for a moment we were able to take our minds off of why we are here. For lunch we stopped at the Blue Bicycle in Marinette, MN. Allan, Mark and Lois devoured gigantic burritos and I enjoyed a bountiful veggie burrito salad topped with guacamole and blue chips. It was the perfect lunch to satisfy... Read More

Hello from Marinette

Yesterday morning we received news that Allan’s Great Aunt Anna Mae passed away, so we quickly packed up the Rav4 to accompany Allan’s parents to Peshtigo, Wisconsin. We are staying at the lovely Country Inn in Marinette, which is a bit outdated, yet surprisingly very clean. Also, they have a huge fridge in the room to house all of our clean snacks. Between making some of the funeral arrangements, we were able to fit in a trip to the family... Read More

Make it Last

Lately I have been on a preservation kick. This week I picked up 3 lbs of organic cherries at Target for a little over $3 per pound! On Tuesday night, I hand pitted and froze all 7+ cups of them! I am so excited to have organic frozen cherries in the house, because I love using them in smoothies and breakfast bakes, but I can’t seem to find them in stores anymore. Anyone in Minneapolis know where I can pick up organic frozen cherries? We also... Read More

Vegan Mocha Ice Cream

It feels like fall outside. The air is crisp and the sun is warm. I LOVE the fall! When the Godiva Coffee that I was sent as a part of the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program arrived, I knew exactly what I wanted to make with it – ice cream. My favorite hot weather, summertime treat is ice cream; coming in at a very close second is dark chocolate. So why not meld my favorite treats together with coffee to make a vegan ice cream that can be enjoyed... Read More

Fugget About It

Chocolate Cherry Truffle + Giveaway

Today is supposed to be the last day of the oppressive heat and humidity that we have been experiencing here in the upper midwest (and across the rest of the country!). I cannot wait for the storms to roll in and for the cooler, fall-like low-humidity seventies to arrive tomorrow. Matthew and I plan to spend the rest of the week enjoying the weather! This morning it was humid and cloudy, so we decided to do our monthly shopping trips to Valley Natural... Read More

Simple Supper

It’s late and Allan and I would like to rent a movie from iTunes before bed. So I am going to make this short and sweet.  We have been enjoying our time as a family this week and are sad to see the week nearing its end. It will be very weird to be back to normal next week. Yesterday, was a day of things we have not done since we found out I was pregnant. Including picking up a pair of Thermometer Jeans in a size 26… I can get the jeans... Read More

Hugh Jass Salad

This morning while cutting carrots for Matthew’s lunch, I sliced my thumb on my mandolin while talking to Allan instead of focusing on the job at hand. This is following trying to grate off the knuckle on my middle finger using a micro plane… I really need to be more careful. Today Allan and I spent some quality time in Stillwater junking and picnicking. I packed a Hugh Jass salad for two that we enjoyed on a park bench along the St.... Read More

Sudz Up

We had such a wonderful weekend as a family! I love Minnesota summers – even if we are still in the midst of a heat wave. Come mid-January we are all going to be longing for 90°+ days. So, we had better enjoy them while they last. Although, I have to admit that it’s at this point in the year that I get really excited for Autumn. I absolutely love the warm days and cool nights along with crisp breezes, football and, of course, my birthday.... Read More
