As the Minnesota last frost date nears (May 15) and all forecasts point to a very warm week ahead (highs near 80˚!) I have been hard at work in our garden.
While picking up a superior and northblue blueberry bush (which do not have homes in our garden… yet) and a josta gooseberry bush at EGG|PLANT Urban Farm Supply in St. Paul today I struck up a conversation with a very knowledgeable employee regarding all things vegetable gardening (and raising chickens – but that is a topic for another day). I have been struggling to figure out a trellis system for the six tomato plants I plan to grow this year. He said that a very popular and reliable method is the Florida Weave. When I got home I immediately searched for photos and videos of the system to show Allan and came across a wonderful YouTube video that I simply could not keep to myself!
Here is a great article on trellising, weaving and pruning tomato plants from the University of Minnesota Extension – my go to resource for all things plant related.
Happy planting!
