With the start of the new year and the popularity of get healthy resolutions, Whole Foods hosted a screening of the movie, Forks Over Knives at a local library. I have been wanting to see this movie for some time, but unfortunately were unable to make any of the Minneapolis showings in 2011. We called my parent to babysit and were off on our date yesterday afternoon.
I was very excited that Allan agreed to accompany me to the movie, given it’s premise was to advocate a plant-based, whole foods diet (aka veganism). As we ventured to the library, I felt myself explaining to Allan why I wanted to see the movie – almost preparing him for what (I thought) we were going to see.
Once there, we settled into a set of seats and I ran to grab refreshments… cuties, berry tofu mousse, trail mix and waters. All provided by our friendly host – Whole Foods. It was such a nice surprise to be offered healthy treats to snack on during the movie. Plus, I was able to save the snacks that I had smuggled into the movie for today.
Allan and I really enjoyed the movie. We were both invigorated and inspired upon the roll of the credits. Yes, I knew much of the information that was presented in the movie; I read a lot about nutrition, healing and food therapy. However, the manner in which the information was studied, applied and presented was riveting. I knew that food is what ails or heals – but to see it working in so many people’s lives was astounding.
As you know, we have been experiencing ailments of our own here in the Peters household. We hope that with the information we gained at the screening yesterday we may be able to heal my boys.

I’ve been wanting to see this documentary! Although, I don’t believe a fully vegan diet is truly healthy. The lack of saturated fats from real foods like butter, grass-fed meat, eggs, etc. means your body can’t absorb vitamins & minerals from veggies & fruits. But eating more veggies and less processed food is always a good idea!
I love that Whole Foods offered healthy snacks during the screening. Way to go WF. 😉
